not that it would/should change, this is just a fun thought experiment.

I'd make posts auto-lock or auto-sage after X number of days (determined by board, similar to sage limit) so that necroposting wouldn't happen. also get rid of the archive and thread pruning after 10 pages. instead, you could see posts from years and years ago, kind of like a more normal forum. maybe prune reply images after a year to save on disk space. I think there's a lot of valuable information on 4chan that disappears after a while. delete IP addresses after they hit autosage for sure.

I remember a discussion here about "why don't we have user registration" and there were some ideas about letting anyone make posts, but you need to have an account to upload images and/or make new threads. I think that'd be a good idea too, to combat spam and/or illegal content. I know that email addresses are free, but it adds another barrier of entry. it's not perfect, and it wouldn't be 4chan, but it might make things easier to clean up problem posters. if you have a user account, then you could have a tripcode assigned to your account and optionally (default: off) include it with your post.

how would you change 4chad? leave your ideas in the comments below, and don't forget to like and subscribe

I'd conjure a demon through hermetic cyberkabbalah to immediately kill every single person who ever said anything dumb in my new imageboard.

if i were to do that i would require user registration, but let users make their own boards on the site kinda like general threads.
instead of putting out applications for janitors,i'd just let the boards choose their own. there would also be a positive and negative review system for posts so the community can vote on the quality of posts. perhaps if things go well, i could introduce meaningless badges for users to give to others as a sort of super like, but charge them real life money for the privelage.
the main goal would be to attract as many normalfags as possible and spread cancer to all corners of the internet.

>let people pay to put hats on posts, like what happens on holidays, or little badges
>only load 10 posts in a thread, require users to scroll to the bottom of the page and click a "Load More" button to see the next 10. Can be bypassed with a pass
>support for more video formats and allow audio on every board
>allow multiple files attached to a single post
>disable thread archiving on general boards, instead prune all posts in threads every day (allows bookmarking thread link rather than having to search for it every time)
>some kind of official archive, maybe only for important or significant posts that require manual submission from users/janitors/mods. Lots of useful information is posted and later can only be found via archives which are prone to shutting down or losing data

What about adding a button at the top called “random board” and “random thread” and it basically takes you into a random board or thread. There could be a SWF option. This could help bring exposure to new boards.

>I'm Feeling Lucky

what if dupe threads could be merged somehow? at the moment they generally end up pruned, i think, which means some relevant content is lost.

Not only would I do this, but I would also make it paid. You can observe for free, but you need to pay $10 to be able to post. You gain access to a premium account that enables DMs between other uses if you pay another $10.

I'm going to effortpost on this. no tl;dr.

the internet is a vastly different place than it was 20 years ago. social media was barely a concept in our brains when 4chan launched. myspace (I think) was around, facebook's public launch outside of universities was 4 years away. going on the internet to talk to people was limited to forums and chatrooms. it wasn't until like 2010 ish that 4chan even started to need the use of a captcha as the anonbb spam really ramped up. currently, 4chan has well-established methods of dealing with spam and long-established lists of proxies and tor exit nodes built up over decades of experience in dealing with these people. but if you start a new anonymous posting platform, it is going to be rife with spam and abuse. using an IPv4 address and a session cookie to track a ban is not sufficient, IMO. it is too easy to evade, especially with mobile users who can just toggle airplane mode and boop new IP address. while most people do wait out their bans, troublemakers will continue to make trouble and go out of their way to make trouble. having some sort of registration for more features like posting images or creating threads makes it easier to take care of troublemakers who have access to loads of IP addresses. I understand that it pawns off the "loads of IP addresses" issue onto "loads of email domain names", but it also gives better control over what can be posted and tracking spammers. even /biz/ has verified email addresses allowed only from a certain subset of domains. user registration is not inherently a bad thing for a site like this, and I believe that users can still remain anonymous.

The payment barrier would deter exactly this kind of frankly RUDE and INAPPROPRIATE posting.
