While looking at /q/ earlier today I saw this thread https://boards.4chan.org/q/res/428500 which reminded me of other threads I've seen on /q/ regarding our moderation work, and most of the complaints I've seen either occurred on or provided evidence of them being punished for some offense during the week and then seeing somebody get off with some rulebreaking crap during the weekend, namely Friday. This is a good sign - going off of the Price Equation, cheaters that have been punished will hop to the chance to punish other cheaters to ensure everyone plays by the same rules. However, loopholes in the system can upset this, the largest one being Friday. Before I became a Janitor I would usually avoid browsing /v/ on a Friday because of the shit usually posted there, and these days I don't feel much better taking a second to look at it being playing something else with a group of friends and seeing a solid report queue of 150-250. Simply put, one of the busiest days of the week for /v/ is also one of the most unmoderated. Our moderation is only as strong as our weakest point, and I do not feel comfortable knowing Fridays early in the night are /v/'s most vulnerable hours.
For these reasons, we need to establish a schedule for Friday, if nothing else than to determine the largest gaps in moderation during reasonable hours. So I’ve whipped up this quick MSpaint graph to detail the issue. Simply pick a color (try something different from what other people have chosen) and fill in the blocks for which timeframes you can janitor /v/ for at least 30 minutes or more total. Everything adds up in small amounts, and by next Thursday I will compile this data and we’ll see where our blindspots are, and see which can be dealt with.
Here is my stuff as an example of what I’m looking for.
