Enable ID's on all boards but have them hidden and let janitors/moderators see them. Possible? Would just make the job a little easier.

Also would be cool if a janitor/mod could then reveal certain posts IDs.

I usually find it quite easy to tell if a user has been spamming/making lots of offtopic replies, and you can see if a user has a ban request already by using the janitor's toolbox.

Mods can (& do on rare occasions) reveal the posts of users who have been samefagging/removing their tripcode to shitpost in threads, and on boards outside /q/ I can only think of a handful of times Ive seen it happen over the years, and each time an angry mod posting as Anonymous ## Mod made the reveal, and was iirc used against the worst of the worst (i.e Manly tears on /v/ being a good example).

If users knew id's were active on boards but hidden, theyd have a serious meltdown on /q/, and i could see it getting used way too much and derailing threads that could be saved with a bit of pruning/one or two ban requests. It just goes way beyond the Janitors remit as "a class between "end user" and "moderator." imo. You can always chat to a mod if you have one serious, persistent, samefagging offender, and they might be able to do something about it or make a suggestion.

In the long run, I can only see it having more bad reprecussions than good ones and im not sure it would deter users from samefagging even, if thats part of your reasoning behind this suggestion.

No IDS on /a/ pls.

Speaking from /vg/ there's a shit posting "culture" of people replying to themselves as other people. It would really help undermine that if their ids could be revealed.

I just don't like the idea of having to run to a mod all the time, especially considering that can be spotty.

Also users currently have meltdowns on /q/ constantly anyway. I can't see it honestly being different. I'm not seeing the cause of the meltdown if the ids are hidden.

Talking about hidden IDs.

IDs aren't something that team 4chins was comfortable sharing with janitors as of a few months ago, and there really isn't any point in doing so.

We don't really need to know whether or not someone is samefagging, because we don't dish out the bans. We're not making a decision to wipe out all content of that user's particular session versus single deletion.
>>
Not something we'll ever give janitors access to.
