Often times the reports queue gets filled with a slew of posts that just don't break any rules. Most of the time they are just mean spirited posts and sometimes they are completely random, but the fact of the matter is that they have no business being reported. It seems as though sometimes a user will just go on a report rampage, which ends up being very annoying and a huge waste of time for the janitor(s) on the receiving end who have to clean up each report. (Which obviously is why we have a rule against false reporting) So I was wondering if it would be possible, plausible, and reasonable to give janitors the ability to BR those who sent the false report for abusing the report system, as finding a moderator on the IRC channel who has enough free time to deal with such small matters seems almost tedious.
I have this problem often on /mu/. People tend to report music related threads and posts simply because they don't like them.
>>2441Yeah, I think that seems to happen on every board. I get these reports all the time on /m/ especially.
>>2441Me again, for instance someone just reported every single post in the current Kpop thread no matter how on or off-topic the posts were.
I think the standard procedure in this case is to ask a mod to take of it. But I don't know if that would clear the report queue, which is the main issue.
I know how OP feels, my queue can reach ridiculous proportions because people are reporting "illegal/spam" on posts that not only don't break any rules, but are clearly maddening only to the user who reported them./pol/ users will report on-topic posts or threads because they are dissenting opinion. It's a waste of time because I can't actually get to all the porn/inappropriate content that's being reported as well in a timely manner.
>>2449/pol/ especially has this problem. /sci/ as well, most of /sci/'s reports are bogus.
We can probably do this with the new reports system we're working on.
This may already be on the Forbidden To-do List of 4chan, but I'd just like to voice my support for such a function.I think janitors understand that constantly seeking to ban people for frivolous reports is not necessary or worthwhile—we have the Clear button for a reason. So, I don't believe it would be used too often and create another problematic queue for mods, but it would be useful and save us throwing pings around on IRC.
Maybe half the reports on /vg/ are not worthy, if we could let users know that this is not ok it might actually reduce the mountain of reports /vg/ gets.
>>2984I would really appreciate this, pointless reports can make up 25% of the queue on /vg/ when it gets bloated.
>>2456If a new reports system is under discussion, could mobile access return as well? I previously enjoyed the ability to delete/clear reports (ban requests were impossible) while at at work/running errands/in da club/etc, but that's gone away with the new and improved interface.Mind, I would certainly understand if security was the concern here.
>>2986Well, I just access reports.4chan.org on mobile and it works well enough.
>>2987Maybe just my phone, then. Certainly wouldn't be the first time the problem's been on my end.
>>2986Seconding this, I can still technically janitor from my phone but it's really difficult.
