When I first took /vg/ I admit, I underestimated how goddamn messy of a board it is to janitor. I think its fairly common knowledge at this point that /vg/'s report queue is terribly bloated, though despite how problematic some particular generals are the problems that keep coming up and creating that giant wall of reports and quite widespread. The top 5 categories of reports I'll see on /vg/ are as follows:1. Obvious, well known ban evaders2. People I'm not sure who are ban evading but they're using avatars anyways3. Porn4. Heavily sarcastic and vitriolic posts used in a spiteful manner (shitposts) 5. Offtopic materialAfter that its a tossup between people announcing reports or people reporting posts that don't need to be reported.1 and 3 are no-brainers so that situation can't really be helped beyond working on the report page, and honestly aren't that big of a deal. 4 slightly moreso but there's not much to comment on, the br for them is already there. What makes /vg/ such a grueling place to janitor is 2 and 5. 2 is a longstanding issue with a policy that I still feel like there's not too much consensus on. It is against the Global 13, and not to call anyone out but I feel like we janitors don't get much support or even direction on the issue with /vg/ being the place it is. It is an endemic problem, but at the same time, it is consistently a major source of reports across /vg/, and having a concrete say in the matter would make the cleanup far easier. 5 is similar to 2 in the sense of "how much should we shit ourselves about it," but far more annoying since this is an issue specific to each general. First there's the issue of babysitting the threads, then trying to keep it gone, then making sure you don't seem like 1.8picohitlers on /q/ later in the day. Honestly, if it wasn't getting a solid chunk of reports everyday I wouldn't put too much thought into it, but it gets a lot, too many to ignore.
To summarize, shits getting a lot of reports and those two issues are not the most black-and-white matters at the moment, any ideas?
This is pretty true, /vg/ is really gruelling.
The entire concept of generals breeds circlejerks, especially for esports. There is virtually no new content to discuss in the esport generals, so the posters just discuss each other and their mutually shared interests. The long-standing nature of the threads leads them to want to uniquely identify themselves via avatars. It's endemic to the nature of the board.Unfortunately /vg/ just happens to have a larger than normal concentration of ban evaders. Believe me, I'm just as tired of banning these folks as you are of ban requesting them. Several times a day I wade into /vg/ and and mass delete & ban the avatarfags. But they keep coming back, and due to the IP blacklist model that 4chan uses, there is no way of effectively preventing them from doing so.What can be done? Throw more manpower at it. Until we have our next janitor hiring drive, I'd like for mods and globals to spend more time on the /vg/ queue. /vg/ generates ~40% of all reports, and it's not fair that it has so few janitors, so I'll tell the mods to spend more time dealing with /vg/ reports to help ease the workload. I don't want you guys to burn yourselves out. Don't feel like you have to get down to zero reports. Just focus on BRing the worst stuff like the porn, spam, and serial ban evaders. The shitposting and other minor crap is of lower priority.
>>2974As a general rule of thumb, if its League of Legends General, or DotA general, and they'e avatarfagging, they're also ban evading. You can trust me on this one, lol.
p.s.>>2993>Don't feel like you have to get down to zero reports.Tell that to my autism.
>>2993good advice, thanks. also there's no way I'm leaving the report queue not empty
