Gentlemen, I'm sure you've noticed the 4chan Summer Cup threads. In my opinion, I do not think they should be purged from the boards that have teams playing, it is beneficial for the community by fostering a healthy dose of competition and each board turns it into their own, ie; /tg/ rolling for victory, /x/ creating sigils to help power their team, etc.How have you been dealing with the summer cup, and really what should our policy be? Mod guidance would be appreciated.
Why should there be threads on /c/, /h/, etc.?
>>3139Good point, it isn't on topic but like our sticky says people come here for "fun".It's only for a few weekends, mayhaps some leniency would be beneficial? I'm unsure really of what justification there is for it, which is why I'd like to discuss it. I've been enforcing the rules regardless, but maybe we should take a position on it officially.
There was thread on /tv/ earlier following our loss to /a/. I let it go; it had some funny OC and was a well-behaved thread. So long as it's a single, timely thread that doesn't have excess rule breaking than I say it's fine.
In my experience, they've been extremely good for board morale (of course, depending on the board) and they seem to do more good than harm. Especially when the board bans together to work on stuff, I'd say it's well worth it to let them keep it to a thread on their specific board(s) when games are going on.
As I understand it you may post about the matches happening live in "Cup match threads" on /sp/ and /vg/. Also you can make threads about all the 4chan Cup's in a general sort of way on /vg/...Now, they make the odd one on /sp/ when the competition time approaches, but it really doesnt bother anyone (unless its part of the broader issue of generals, but lets not get sidetracked with all that jazz). So, in a ideal world I think, all the participating boards would congregate on /vg/ in a general thread, discussing team rosters, logos, making OC etc. sometime before the start of the cup...But thats in an ideal world of course. I mean its likely lots of the 4chan cup OC gets made or see's interesting contributions occur from board regulars/lurkers who dont even know about its "home" on /vg/, and maybe idly post while bored or something. Idk, this may not be the case, but its asking a mighty bit too much for alot of boards to let it go un-purged imo. I mean its fun and all, but its not been without its problems (the main one being that last winter some guy was found to have bluffed his way into managing about 10-15 boards and the whole thing nearly fell apart). Its not official or cared about by enough people really, and although it has its OC and fans and is a bit of harmless fun as much as I can make out, it has been ok'd and given a home which is generous enough imo. If people get warned/banned about making threads and goto /q/ to complain, theyll hopefully get told what to do - and that is to find the thread on /vg/ (or make one) or post in the ones on /sp/
A lot of the "participating" boards really do not care for the 4chan cup. Its just one or two guys who signed up the rest of the board and now they have to deal with the thread on their board.Anybody actually interested enough will probably go to /vg/ just like everybody else.
>>3145>generalizations and assumptionsGonna have to disagree with you there. However,>you may post about the matches happening live in "Cup match threads" on /sp/ and /vg/Is the official policy, word of the big m.
>>3146It was an accurate description of how the Cup relates to slow boards.I've been deleting them whenever I see them, game on or not, and I won't stop until either the threads magically become contributory and worth having around, or policy changes to allow off-topic threads about inter-board events.
>>3145>>3147THISI'm not gonna stop deleting them. The vast majority of /vp/ and /vr/ doesn't want these threads. Saying it should be allowed because some people think it's 'fun' is a retarded reason. Many more people also think dubs threads are 'fun'. Spamming the same stream thread across 4chan IS NOT ALLOWED. PeriodP.S.: Here are some quotes from moot to remind the rest of you of what your job is:http://archive.foolz.us/q/search/text/cup/capcode/admin/>Moot instead of jumping to insane conclusions about the cup,>How is "reposting stream threads ad nauseum across multiple boards" an "insane conclusion"? It's advertising—period.>2nd question: Will we be able to make 4chan cup threads again anytime soon?>Will you be able to advertise across multiple boards? No.>Moot, can you suggest a way the 4chan Cup might retain its tie to 4chan and continue to operate?>It can exist and go on all it wants -- it just can't be spammed across the site as it has been in the past.>Fuck, really? I thought you were alright with the 4chan Cup. I mean, it's a staple.>It gets spammed across all of the boards which counts as advertising. We don't allow stream threads generally and this is the same exact thing.>Moot, are 4chan Cup threads ban-worthy?>We consider them to be advertising, which is against the rules.>I've already made it clear in the past that there is to be a single thread on /vg/ about the cup.>You can also maintain a single thread on /sp/.>If you spam the other boards, we'll permaban you. Stop thinking the rules don't apply to you and grow up/stop shitting up the boards for others who don't care. Tall order for 4channers, I know. Now, how about we keep janitoring consistent by only allowing cup threads on /sp/ and /vg/? Is that too hard?
My questions have been answered.Thank y'all for the input.
