As we move into Fall I think we should have a thread about /v/ to discuss current events and future items to look for or be aware about. I got some topics ready to go but if you got anything to add please do so!Anyways, current events I think that should be addressed, if you got input then give it!: 1. GTA Threads. They’re huge and ubiquitous, and the whole thing has been pretty crazy from the island info leaks to the actual game leak to the actual release. Long story is, there’s a lot of ‘em, and there has been a lot of ‘em, the main issue being that there’s like 6 on the board at any time.I think that no later than after this next weekend we should really work on containing them. Not “banishing them to /vg/” but we should ensure at least related GTA topics stay in one thread, that’s a service we owe /v/. 2. Low quality posts, I think that ultimately they’re being diminished but they also seem to be homogenizing. I’m seeing less “xxdddDDDxxd” sort of stuff and more “*tip fedora*” or some other kind of action GAIA bullshit. Luckily, the users are pretty good at reporting this so I’m happy about that. Are other janitors noticing something similar?3. Ban Evaders. Seems like I see less and less or Kronie on /v/ and a lot more on /vg/. The only notable guy I can name off the top of my head atm that I’ve seen repeatedly recently is that thundersword guy. Am I missing people or are you guys noticing the same thing?4. Flamewards, fanboyism, trolling, etc. General consolewar stuff seems down but that’s probably just a calm before the storm (more on that later), the biggest areas seem to be LoL vs. DotA2 stuff and a slow but steady resurgence in WRPG vs. JRPG stuff. Has anyone noticed any other areas to pay attention to?
Secondly, I wanted to highlight some future events of varying importance:>Gaming Events-September 26th-29th: Eurogamer Expo., there probably won’t be anything big announced or streamed there so probably nothing to think too much of.October 3rd-6th: Indiecade. I can’t remember the last time something big was announced there but it would be a good idea to watch for any buzz here. Phil Fish will probably say something stupid so expect a lot of that shit.October 4th-7th: EB Games Expo. Pretty much the same thing as the Eurogamer Expo but in Aussieland instead. It might help to sticky this depending on what happens but again, this will happen during oz hours.*Steam Autumn Sale: November 21st – 27th, probably won’t be a huge deal, but:***Steam Winter Sale: December 20th – January 4th will be a huge thing when it starts off, we’ll need a sticky for this for sure.>Console ReleasesRev up those consolewars, we’ll definitely need stickies or something on these dates:November 15th – PS4November 22nd – Xbox OneThe two big competitive consoles releasing within a week of each other is bound to cause controversy, so heads up for everyone.>Game Releases October 12th – Pokemon X & Y. /v/ will get swamped by Pokemon stuff, along with /vp/ I’m sure. A date to watch out for. November 15th – Watchdogs, along with an assload of PS4 games. The 22nd of Nov will be crazy for similar reasons. That’s it, thanks for reading!
Steams sales are the bi-yearly "japantime". I love it, and the OC is amusing. As far as ban evaders I constantly see that "smug frenchwoman" file being posted, the humanoid pony thing, and a few other repeaters like "What is the [x] of video games?" usually used as a way to make offtopic threads about subject x, sometimes they actually turn into good discussion though. I don't really see many trips like there used to be.Consolewars will always be a thing, as awful as it is, and the jrpg hate I think is coming from the recent introduction of more visual novels into Steam. Then again this is just as a casual browser of /v/, but I report when I can. Thanks for keeping an eye on things.
>>3241About those Steam sale dates - I've got a friend who's an indie dev on steam and has been leaking me the dates for a few years now. As the time gets closer, I'll confirm with him so that I can give you guys the exact start/end days.
One other issue I'd like to bring up that has really been gaining too much popularity is the "*raises paw*" and other furry roleplaying shit. There was far too much over the last few days but frequent G6 BRs and deletions seem to have suppressed it somewhat. Still, I'd like to request increased scrutiny on those people, and to keep notice in /vg/ where it seems to linger.
As you already pointed out, I also see less and less ironic shitposts. The fake roleplaying stuff you mentioned earlier is just another type; there's no need to worry about it, if you ask me.Ban evaders are always roaming around on /v/ and I still see Kronie to this day. It also looks like Manly Tears is still posting but he seems to get banned regularly when he's caught advertising his channel. I personally do not ban request him, since he's posting anonymously to avoid bans. I haven't seen KurokawaThundersword in a while and I believe he has stopped posting for now but don't forget that he can always return.>Has anyone noticed any other areas to pay attention to?We should definitely keep an eye on the new Pokemon threads. As the administrator said, Pokemon has its own board and belongs there; this means Pokemon threads are permitted to be shot down on /v/.Also, I fear there soon will be a rise of pony trolls again; TF2 was updated with a pony hat and I believe trolling in these threads will increase.
>>3241I would also approve of some stickies, the moderators definitely should put a few up, otherwise the whole board might as well be called /ps4/, /xb1/ or /sws/.>>3242>other repeaters like "What is the [x] of video games?" usually used as a way to make offtopic threads about subject xThis. I delete those threads on sight. If I recall correctly this started with "What is the Eva of video games?" and the only thing they talked about in these threads were Evangelion, Madoka or other anime. The pattern is always the same: stay on-topic for a while and then discuss anime.>>3332>One other issue I'd like to bring up that has really been gaining too much popularity is the "*raises paw*" and other furry roleplaying shit. There was far too much over the last few days>last few daysIf only, that would be too good. The acceptance of furfags and their general behavior has been growing since early 2012; the origins seem to come from dragon dildo threads and off-topic garbage like making fun of furfags.A prime example would be the infamous "dragon threads". The OP seems to be just an anonymous poster who wants to discuss dragons in video games, but if you open large threads, you will notice that there is a lot of furry shitposting in them, from yiffing to furporn to RP, circlejerking and all that other crap. The big problem here is that there are users who endorse such behavior and support it, while either trying to barely not break any rules or forcing it in other threads. I'm afraid it might be organized shitposting.
Have some confirmed Steam sale dates:- November 27th through December 3rd- December 19th through January 2nd
