Since there appears to be some confusion amongst the posters regarding the official policy of generals on /vr/, could a modpost stating that official policy be made? From what I understand the official policy is that they're allowed, since the general rules only apply to /v/ and none of the /vr/ generals would have any shot at surviving in /vg/. I didn't pastebin a post like I did for the /diy/ sticky since I didn't feel qualified to write out the official policy. To give an idea for those unfamiliar with /vr/, there are a number of retro generals on /vr/, including the Doom general (the most active of the bunch, each thread lasts 1-3 days usually, they wait until the thread is on page 8 before creating a new one), the Quake general, the Rollercoaster Tycoon general, the HOMM general, the Repair/Mod general, the /vr/ Gauntlet general, the Shmup general, the Final Fantasy Remnants general, the UFO Defense general, the City Building general, the Tibia general, the Game Center CX general, the CRT general, the Buy/Sell/Trade general and the Recent Finds general. The generals last from the fastest of about 1-3 days (the Doom generals) to well over a month (the HOMM generals, UFO Defense generals) before reaching bump limit.
>>4080Another /vr/ janitor hereNote that although the list of generals may seem to be large at first glance, the board isn't actually cluttered with them. Page 1 really only tends to have the Doom general on top since it's the only one consistently active. On /vg/, these generals would simply NOT survive, even the Doom general is too slow. Most people on /vr/ have no problem with the generals, however, there is one really obnoxious guy constantly spamming the Doom general and complaining about it's existence on /vr/A mod post explaining that the ban on generals only applies to /v/ would help to silence him and prevent the thread from being repeatedly derailed with this drama.
>>4081If this issue concerns an annoying person, ping a mod next time you see them. We can give them a warning, it will be more effective. A modpost would likely derail the thread, and we wouldn't want that.
>>4082I was thinking perhaps a second post in the sticky thread, regarding all generals, versus replying to a single poster. But it's up you mods/admins.
>>4081>>4082Having a mod warn the one guy bitching about generals is better than modposting or adding to the sticky. Any overt policy change we make tends to invite drama and stupidity, so I'd like to avoid them where possible. If the issue can be resolved by just quietly informing one person that yes, generals on /vr/ are fine, then that's the best course of action.
