This question may have been asked and answered at some point in the past before, so please excuse me.

I monitored the /vg/ archive and was quite disappointed to find many scam, request and begging threads. I just stumbled upon an archived thread that should have been ban requested. Since the thread was archived, the user information was pruned, so there was nothing I could do other than actively delete the thread in question.

Will janitors eventually get the ability to ban request archived posts?

You cannot retroactively ban request or ban users for posts that appear in the archive. No posting information that 'live' posts contain (such as your IP address) is retained on the servers once they drop off into the archive.
