I've been noticing a lot more politically charged posts in the last few months, even in places where it wouldn't normally foster political speak such as anime and vidya threads. I don't think it will let up for a while, even after the election so I was wondering if there's anything specific in place to address this.

My guess is treat it as off-topic.
G3 used to say something like "keep /pol/ in /pol/", but the current ban template doesn't say anything like that.

Most boards have some sort of Off-Topic template iirc. If not, use GR3 as it also includes off topic (as "off-topic replies").

Is this is getting increasingly exhausting to deal with for anyone else? Users want to derail threads with political or social debates at the drop of a hat. Most of my time is probably spent cleaning these threads up. It is sometimes difficult to catch/contain as it isn't always reported and can be happening in any unassuming thread, then when it's noticed you have 300+ posts of people arguing about Islam or some other completely off-topic issue.

The worst offenders get a warning or ban if it's garbage-y enough, but this itching to bring up political/social topics doesn't seem to be getting any better and maybe needs to be cracked down on more harshly?

Threads derailing into one topic or another is a pretty normal thing, especially when it's a major event that's permeating pop-culture. It's not exactly ideal of the content of a thread's discussion shifts to something completely off-topic for that board, like politics, but it's also not the end of the world. What's more is that the more you fight it, the more eager users will be to broach those topics until they finally get it out of their systems.

I think warning it when it gets out of hand is appropriate, but just remember to take it easy.

If it really gets out of hand your best bet is to ping a mod rather than trying to clean it up yourself. Sometimes threads become salvageable and the only thing you can do is have a mod permasage the thread or delete it.

its really easy bait because everybody wants to voice their opinion about it

luckily i dont get as many MAGA hats on /jp/ as i'd expected because they adpoted momiji as a mascot for some reason

Let the end begin

Remember when politics would naturally crop up in all sorts of threads without the immediate injection of /pol/ memes and other assorted stupidity?

Yeah, me neither.

Now we just weather the last of the storm.
Good luck janis
