My list of April Fools ideas is a little short. Why not start collecting really early?
>>5699Every user who posts on 4chan is assigned a team(like Team Blue, Team Red, Team Green, Team Yellow) Their team is displayed at the bottom of each post and stays with them between threads (and boards, if possible). Similar to ID's. There would be no point to the teams, but it would funny seeing users band together/attack each other over an arbitrary, meaningless characteristic they had no control over.If you wanted to go a bit more complex, put a meter in the announcements at the top of the page displaying each teams score. What is the score based off of? Who knows!... Too elaborate?
Make /b/'s post counter start counting backwards towards 0 where it gets baleeted.
>>5699Could you make it so posting with a tripcode has a slight (like 1%) chance to randomly display mod capcode? To make it look like the tripfag is a mod who accidentally posted with his mod capcode on. At first, everyone would dogpile on the poor, unsuspecting tripfag, but as hours pass, more and more tripcode users would trigger it and it would become obvious to everyone it's an April Fools joke and they'll feel stupid for falling for it.
>>5702This is gold.
add a fillable box to each 'new thread' page that allows you to include an embed autoplay youtube video to your thread, but the catch is that the only video you can choose from is 'No Matter What' by Papa Roach
Implement Pokemon Go.Random threads become a Pokestop, and you can catch a Pokemon by posting in that thread.Except instead of Pokemon, use memes.>>5702 This is awesome.
>>5713A 'collect them all' game sounds fun.
>>5713>>5714Rare Pepe Go!It is imperative that you acquire them all!
every post has (you)
1. Add a secondary CAPTCHA that shows pictures of each girl in a random harem anime, and requires choosing best girl. All answers will cause the post to go through, but it sets their name to "[Name] Best Girl".2. Every post contains "This user's last exhentai search: [insert random tags here]."3. An "I'm Feeling Lucky" button that posts a post to a different thread possibly on a different board, using some algorithm based on matching the words in the post to existing words in the thread. (Can be made simpler if that's too computationally difficult.)
>>5719>>5702These are great.
- Tumblr CSS swap- Reddit CSS swap (has that already been done?)- Real Twitter and Google Plus integration- Teams idea from >>5700 is great. Every hour on the hour there is a global post that a given team is winning. CSS swap for each person's color.- Replying to a post replies to a random post instead.- A chance that a post becomes a sponsored whale post and the image is replaced with a happy whale and there's a message saying "This post was sponsored by whales." Just the whale is fine.- Change all the (you) to (yew)- Change every single banner add to ads for boards that don't exist like /z/ and /yg/ and /5/. And the text boards.- /pol/ - Safe Space now plays smooth jazz.- /v/ - Mtn Dewritos, CSS swap to some 90s website.- Every single die roll on boards with dice enabled obviously roll only 1s or the maximum.- Fake announcements that Hiro is stepping down and have George Soros own it.- 4chan pass users can now post pepe emojis.- 4chan pass users have a chance of being banned whenever they post, complete with ban message.- Merge all the drawn porn boards, but make note of keeping /tg/ and /qst/ separate because there is a valid distinction.- Official 4chan discord, but it's a link to some other site's discord- Remove die rolls from all boards, but create a new board exclusively for dice rolling. 4chan pass users have the option of re-rolling the first low die.- 40$ 4chan superpass that has a chance of generating a mod capcode.- An "empty trash" button at the top of /trash/ that randomly deletes a post. There is a cooldown and a captcha, and it should show you the post it's deleting.- File takedown notices against archiving websites.- Since Firefox only has 11% browser share, announce that firefox is no longer a supported browser and users should upgrade to the latest Chrome.
>>5713If you are a 4chan VIP™ member, your account will keep track of all the rare pepes you collected that day.
>>5724classic.>>5700Very into this idea. Should have a point system on the homepage -- adds unneeded competition.
Random posts are given 4CHAN GOLD (maybe bestowed by pass users?) allowing day-long access to /vip/. /vip/ cycles through a playlist of remixes/mashups of All Star.
/vuip/Very unimportant posts.Only non-4chan pass people can post.
change /vr/ to Virtual Reality.Make a modpost about how "Retro games are just played by grandpas" and the board is being changed as a result.Bonus points: /vr/ (and only /vr/) is compatible with the oculus rift
>>5802You will incur the wrath of a small but mighty band of pixel loving anons...
open another /pol/, indistinguishable from first /pol/ in every way. sticky announcement in /qa/ about the team listening intently to valued community feedback on adding/deleting boards
>>5826>/pol2/ : The /pol/ening
>>5827Redirect /pol/ to /poll/ where each thread is just a voting poll, but no matter what you vote for, it votes for a random option.
All generals on /vg/ are demoted to officers.
>>5846
There are lots of absolutely hilarious ideas in here, so I'll go a bit more meta, regardless of what's chosen. How about filters on words that could explain what's going on, in order to keep the gag rolling? >>5802Filtering "gamers" to "grandpas" in /vr/, for example. "Prank/Joke" to "new site feature," and so on.
I want to know more about the idea one of the devs was talking about on /qa/ earlier this year involving a html5 game. we have 4 months. we have the technology
>>5846Oh, you!
> - Reddit CSS swap (has that already been done?)I feel like we tried this…? Not sure it ever went up though.Related: a long time ago, we did Facebook integration where you could post your posts on your wall.>>5850The idea was to replace captcha on /jp/ with a 1-stage Touhou clone with original music (but then make them enter it anyway). We'd need to recruit people to do all the work…Board-specific ones are ok too, like turning /g/ posting into emacs.
>>5865>we did Facebook integration where you could post your posts on your wall. The button didn't actually do anything iirc.>April 1, 2010where does the time go...
>>5866Oh, no, it definitely did something. Maybe it only worked on some browsers.
>>5869oh. yeah i don't remember it working for me.
>>5865>The idea was to replace captcha on /jp/ with a 1-stage Touhou clone with original music (but then make them enter it anyway). We'd need to recruit people to do all the work…I'd definitely help make that happen, it sounds like it would be really fun
>>5872On that topic, having normal captcha being replaced by Touhou character identification would be hilarious, especially on a board like /pol/
>>5873Oh god no please don't expose /pol/ to any more touhous, we can barely even have Momiji threads on /jp/ because of that shit.
got bored and started working on something like >>5865 , the results are pretty fun. here's some ""alpha"" o i am laffinno sound because /j/
>>5904oh my god>no sound because /j/dont you tempt me like this. there better be some bumpin tunes.
>>5904That's awesome.
One we did was Sticky the post assistant - it made dumb jokes based on if it thought you were making a bad post.It was so good we actually re-ran it ten years later and nobody noticed.Something else like that (automatic mod or post psychologist) would work.
bring back the ussr stylesheet for /pol/!
>>5917i member
>>5715No Pepe's please, some boards are no frog posting areas
>>5722>Since Firefox only has 11% browser share, announce that firefox is no longer a supported browser and users should upgrade to the latest Chrome. How about announce that everyone has to install Internet Explorer or Firefox to browse 4chan for the day? Not sure if that's possible though
set up some rudimentary text-to-speech feature, but it only speaks sampled/manipulated Bane syllables.
make all posts sage by defaultyou have to put "sage" into the options field to bump the thread
>>5930>sage >not ageOtherwise great idea
maybe an "old 4chan" day as a play on when (You)s were removed for a bitremove the inline extension, require noko again, etc.>>5930i like this idea too
How about no more flags on /pol/ & /int/ while flags on every other board?
Two ideas came to my mind; The first being combining boards such as /int/ and /pol/ becoming /point/. Could probably add in /his/ for /his point/, /fa/ and /g/ could become /fag/, /mlp/ and /lgbt/ becomes /mlbt/ (my little bi transsexuals). /a/ /jp/ and /sci/ becomes /japsci/ (otaku science). Other combinations can also be made though I'm not sure if it's possible nor will the shitposting not have long lasting effects. My second idea is to have any willing mod to post in random threads calling himself the "spooky scary mod". His message would be "You have been visited by the spooky scary mod, plentiful (you)s will be yours as long as your reply (MODS IS GODS/PRAISE BE TO HIRO) (or anything in that line)". Another possible sentence would be "The next five posters will be banned should the not praise the spooky scary mod". Just some random ideas I had that I'd like to shout out, hell the spooky scary mod could also make a comeback on Halloween.
>>5948i think these are both excellent ideas and would thoroughly enjoy watching shitposting on /japsci/ and /fag/
>>5948>/mlp/ and /lgbt/ becomes /mlbt/ (my little bi transsexuals)I misread that as /mblt/ and thought about a blt sandwich. We need a board for sandwiches.
>>5948The first idea is my favorite but damn the shitposting that would ensue is a horrifying thought. If that's what the mods end up going with though we need to go all the way and combine the boards that dislike each other the most. Any thoughts on what those may be?
>>5951For April Fools we should make some really pointless boards, so pointless that we can't even pull an [s4s] and leave them around. We can even pick the topics by lottery with no serious winners allowed.
>>5953So /vip/?
im digging the whole color coded teams thing most of all
>>5948/mlp/ and /pol/My little politicians
>>5948Hmm…/out/ + /soc/ - Wilderness Meetups/int/ + /soc/ - International Socialism/m/ + /o/ - Transforming Motorcycles/co/ + /ck/ - Comics about Food
>>5987>not:/mint/ - Robot Wars International/polo/ - Political Races/outmu/ - Outdoors-Venue Concerts/cock/ is fine though
something simple, change all board titles to Anime/(board title)
>>5955Yes.
>>5948/aco/ + /lit/ = /acolt/Mature literature. Play on the word "occult"./an/ + /biz/ = /anbiz/Monkey Business
From a mod - IRC/Discord as a board.I think we'll do >>5948 this year!
>>6009Which one? Top or spooky scary mod?
Some suggestions, some of which would be immediately obvious to people but others might take a bit to be discovered:- Tripfags have sparkly confetti flying out of their names and a big "LOOK AT ME" sign - OPs saying "bump" in their threads make them automatically archive- Remove (you)s + the visible quote chains on posts- Saging bumps threads, normal posts don't
>>6011>Saging bumps threads, normal posts don'tSage is replaced with Upvote. Only Upvotes bump threads.Bonus points for making a timer on how often someone can Upvote.
I think the most fun would be either1. Allow janitors to do our BR's as normal, but when approved the message the anon gets is that they've been banned for Global Rule #1.2. Simply allow janitors to post as janitors instead of anons.Of course, there are over 9000 reasons why either of these would be horrible, terrible, no-good ideas.
>>6013>but when approved the message the anon gets is that they've been banned for Global Rule #1.No.
>>6014I mean... obviously. There are dozens upon dozens of reasons why that would be a (at very least) bad idea. Sorry I didn't think a mod would take either suggestion seriously, especially if they read the whole post. I just hope we don't go with combining boards. I can't imagine how many extra reports I'd have on /pol/ about how the janitors/mods are clearly compromised shills who are working with government forces to suppress anon investigations in to flags and pizza restaurants or whatever. I suppose that's par for the course with the board though. Looking forward to whatever we end up with.
Have a voting contest for /ourgirl/ on all boards. E.g:https://boards.4chan.org/a/ourgirlhttps://boards.4chan.org/b/ourgirlEach board would have their own theme (purple vs green) depending on which girl has the majority vote.Tell them that the outcome will decide who becomes 4chan's favourite mascot.[spoiler]If Sachiko wins, we'll just tell them "April Fool"[/spoiler]
what if instead of having (You)'s, every post that isn't a reply to you gets a (Them)?
>>6018There is only one 4chan girl and that is Yotsuba! I for one find your lack of loyalty to Yotsuba highly disturbing.
/voteban >>6018
>>5700this would be great if we all got a random point counter for each team at the top of the page, title it pointless arguments won and just randomly add points from a random number generator. would this be possible?
>>6022Teams get points every time they get dubs
THE HOUR OF RECKONING IS SOON UPON US
What time is it in the States? All of the AF jokes are already hitting us.
RAPTURE
Thank you for this miracle
>>6009The absolute madmen actually did it.
All good things come to an end, but they shouldn't.
>>6049>but they shouldn'tJust because it wasn't a disaster doesn't mean that people have to hold on desperately without any robust rationale. Being brief keeps them permanently in that flicker of new-board euphoria in peoples' minds and that's probably the best they'll ever be.
Ok for 2018, my idea is as suchBasically the premise is that spooky scary mod has escaped and the mods are helpless to stop him. He is a bot and is going around with a ban hammer and randomly banning people in fast moving threads. Of course this can only occur in large boards. His bans will read, "user was banned by spooky scary mod(or anything in between)" or anything along those lines. Even saying that Hiro did the ban might be a bit fun.4chan users will then be given an option to either endorse the ban or repeal the ban. After a certain number of bans or repeals have been made, the user would either be given a 1 hour ban or those endorsing him will be given a 15 minute ban.Problem is that I think people would just start endorsing all the bans. But then again, I do think that this >>5700 idea, is a good one
A page with a game on it called the Wheel of 4chan. Users have the option of spinning it and getting such prizes as a free captcha pass for the day, a flair they can attach to their posts, or a three-day ban.
Already, another year has gone by?This year, as far as I can recall one of the only concrete ideas that I've seen mentioned already (not mine) was a sort of Classic 4chan, where the site's layout, boards etc get reverted back to circa 2005.Something I've thought of, would be intentionally glitching out things all over the site - for example images might not match the posts they were uploaded with (the swap error but now all the time), threads/posts wind up on wrong boards sometimes, random public bans (just joke bans), trying to click on a board will plop you onto any one of the boards at random, images sometimes become the backgrounds of threads etc.
April Fool's falls on Easter this year, so my idea would be to incorporate "Easter eggs" all over the site. Put some memes from days of old going all the way back to 2003 and spread them across the boards or something. Or maybe just put actual Easter eggs on top of everyone's images and you have to click on the egg to see the full image.
>>5700adding on to this. it could be on its own board, where people have a team randomly assigned to them in their post kinda like how #fortune is added to posts.a leaderboard page updates every 30 minutes or so, showing points for each team, and which team is in the lead, and the time until the next update is shown. the prank is the stats are completely made up every update and nobody knows what earns the points cuz it's random. at the end, it's just a page that plays https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fw3RB7xnb80 and says "yr are all winners happy easter"
>>6587This seems like a good idea in my opinion, easter eggs galore with old memes
>>5700An idea came to my mind last night, what about instead of colours, use old 4chan memes like Longcat, pedobear, rickroll and add in nyancat for the lulz. Could even be a battle between Longcat, Tacgnol and Ceiling cat.
>>6587>>6588>>5700What if we combined these three?Little Easter Eggs appear randomly in all threads on all boards and anons can collect them.Meanwhile, all anons will have an assigned team listed similar to a #fortune under all their posts. Their team will be tied to their IP kinda like an ID on /pol/, so they keep the same team no matter the board they're on. And we can have a leaderboard at the top of the site for number of eggs found (likely with made-up numbers, but potentially with real numbers if it's not hard to do)So we have a fun little Easter Egg collecting game, along with friendly competition between the teams anons are assigned to.Easter only falls on April 1st every 11 years, so we should definitely do something Easter-related since this doesn't happen very often.
Pretty early, but I don't want to forget to post these.Make the name field required when posting.Random chance of having "You have been muted for XX seconds, because your comment was too low in quality (X.XX% quality)." appear when trying to make a post.Apply GR 6 to /b/.Every board except [s4s] gets brackets for the day.Allow users to set fake geo flags by typing the country's abbreviation into the options field.Sticky any post whose OP image has a pin edited onto it.Put a fake /j/ on the public board list.Socialist redistribution of (You)s - a new post can't be made in a thread unless every other post has at least one (You).Switch the default Yotsuba and Yotsuba B styles. To steal a bit from >>5722, have a board where users can delete posts and publicly ban people (from that board only, and a short enough so time that it wouldn't ruin the fun), either individually with some sort of flood control, or else by voting.¡uʍop ǝpisdn si ƃuiɥʇʎɹǝʌǝ ʍou puɐ 'ǝʇis ǝɥʇ ɹǝʌo uǝʞɐʇ ǝʌɐɥ sɹǝʇsodʇiɥs uɐilɐɹʇsn∀ ¡ou ɥOWordfilter any "advertiser unfriendly" language on 4channel.Add an iFunny-tier watermark to every image uploaded to the site.
- Phone app, but actually just make the desktop site be the mobile site in a box.- Phone app but it's a gacha game, plus >>6547.- Parody another site (we tend to do these a lot): Twitter, bitcoin fountain, stock market, visual novel, omegleI was just thinking that people don't really remember our jokes. We've actually run one twice (Clippy) and nobody noticed.
Streaming service like twitch.
>>6961I can see the headlines now: "4chan accidentally launches an Alexa top 10 site for April Fools"
Temporary implement (controversial) board ideas people bring up all the time, manga board, (e-)celebrities board, anime generals board, film board, leftypol board, japanese video games board, etc.Whenever a post is reported have it say on that post that it's been reported, how many times it has been reported, and why it has been reported.Create an official 4chan Discord channel, freeze posting on the imageboard and tell people the site is migrating to Discord.Like last year's Creme etc. color wars but instead of it it's various Wojak edits, zoomer, boomer, NPC, etc.
A game of posting tag. Once it starts, whenever people post anywhere, the "its" start to get seeded randomly (say 1/10 or 1/20 odds of getting it per post, etc). If you're "it", you attain some way to cause mayhem, such as being able to add some pre-selected options/doodads/edits to other peoples' posts (like reactions in discord etc only far, far worse). There can only be one "it" per thread. However this is on a timer and doesn't last long (maybe 2 minutes), and you must refresh it by making a post, or you lose your "it" status and it'll be granted randomly to any new post in the thread. While you're it, the background changes for you, and the posting/quick reply box has a flashing timer to let you know how long you have. However, when you're it and make your obligatory post to reset your timer, an indicator next to your name comes up, and when anyone clicks on it, they've tagged you, become it and you lost your it status. You can try to click on your own tag sign first to guarantee keeping it, but that might be near-impossible to re-pick it up yourself in a crowded thread, or simply barred by design so that it keeps moving. All the idea boils down to, is a weapon of mass distraction.
>>6968Some other possible abilities of the "it", if it's too cumbersome/impossible to add something that puts pictures into peoples' posts etc -- can change size of text in peoples' posts, change their fonts to comic sans, jokerman etc. - can change the color of text including to background- can change the size/dimensions/rotation of imagesetc. All changes revert at the end of the day of course.
>>6969Throw in the ability to add random text filters for that thread. Like making faggot "candyass" again.
replace the default name "Anonymous" with Anonymous ## Janitor so everybody is a(fake) janny for a daycould also have a smaller percentage chance to roll as a fake mod
>>6975and to add onto this only mods could post as regular anonwould make for some funny antics with the roles reversed
>>6976that might be bad screenshot fuel though
Add a raid bar underneath the banner on each board that says something along the lines of "X out of 200,000 posts reached!"
>>6978>encouraging cross-board raidsThat'll go over well.
Anonymous cannot post without a paid pass, but namefriends and tripfriends may post for free.
Announce that 4chan is being bought by and integrated into facebook, and as a result all NWS boards are being erased and to continue posting you will need a facebook account. Give each user a login button to log into facebook, that actually sends to... idk a rickroll or something. Then you can post again, but you have a random image set as an "avatar" and a random name that you cant change for the rest of the day, which is unique to your IP.
Allow (or force :^) ) users to post emojis in their posts/as reactions to other posts
Instead of captcha, users are presented with a form where they must input a triforce.Newfags won't be able to post because newfags can't triforce.
>>6983>encouraging cross-board raidsHow so? I meant raid as in an MMO raid boss where players work together to chip down HP.
>>6985+1 this or something like it. It plays on the outrage about the domain change, and some loonies would find a way to rationalise that's it's actually happening
How's this idea: April fools should be a farming game where you can collect other users posts using the drop-down menu, save them to a cringe compilation, and then breed them to make second and third generation posts that are just amalgamations of the parents. And you can name them and have a little idle animation embedded into 4chan pages much like the queue windows are, with the barn you keep your posts in.You could generate points to buy accessories (pins in the corner, redtext, etc.) For your collected posts Either by getting (you)s or just by farming points with a simple cookie clicker mechanic. With just a bit of customization, users would be able to make vastly different shitpost farms depending on the boards they use, and memes they like.
>>6985they already did this with Google+ a few years ago
>>6985>>6994How about instead of facebook or google+... announce that 4chan will now also be participating in the U.K.'s AgeID program. A fake link will be provided for people to "verify" their age, but when they click on it, they will instead be trolled somehow. Then when they start posting, a fake "age" will be pinned to all of their posts.
Make the website look like an old vbulletin forum. Complete with all of those animated smileys, ~siggies~, and avatars. maybe just have the avatars be a preselected catalog so people dont upload porn.
What about some kind of viral infection experiment? Like, a small range of posters throughout the site are designated Patient Zero and the virus spreads randomly to other posters in whatever threads they post in. The game becomes trying to survive the entire day without getting infected. Maybe include a scoreboard at the top of the page showing the number of active posts on 4chan, broken up by how many are infected and how many are safe. Maybe if a certain % of posters in a thread are infected the theme changes to a creepy infected-colored one, to add to the immersion. i dont know how the mechanics of this would work but experiments are fun
Ok so get this: sub-boards.All sub-boards are hidden by default but discovered via nested browsing. Example:User goes to /d/ and from there clicks /a/, and from there proceeds to /wg/. This will bring the user to /dawg/, a.k.a. the chillest board on 4chan.Not all combinatons end up on a sub-board and it is up to the users to find them all. To make this easier they all make sense in some way, either phonetically (/aok/) or as a word (/cope/) or as an acronym (/stfu/). Please feel free to expand upon this idea.
>>7012/penis/, /tent/, /vondruke/...
>>7012how would a user reset their string? click on home?/relax/ - ambient music on loop in background, posting disallowedThere's some others I had in mind but there's no /l/ ugh
>>7014>there's no /l/ ughSimple solution to that - just add /l/ :^)
A board where you can only post using text to speech, alternatively the entire website like that
>>5699your powerlevel is shown with each post you make, and your level is determined by how many posts you have on the site or something. as you increase in power differrnt shit can happen to your post like making it invisible, inverting the text, fuckin with the color, making it appear inside another persons post, appearing in a different thread etc until you reach the MYSTERY LEVEL where you're banned from all boards except the BOARD of THE CHAMPIONS, where only the ascended can post.
Turn 4chan into a gacha system. Every 5 posts a person makes lets them use a #fortune-like command on the next post that outputs a randomized set of <rarity> <board> <class>, like SSR /vp/ Knight. Would be a good way to encourage OC as well
>>7021>>7022Either of these, but with (You)s. Could probably piggyback off of the system set up for Halloween, as well.
Change the last digit of a link/quote to a random one, and if possible auto-watch threads or somehow indicate to posters where they have (You)'s from this.
In the wake of the recent bans of 4chan in the southern hemisphere, lets fake announce that 4chan is shutting down, it's gonna take 48 hours to finalize, and at the end of april fools announce that "Due to a large scale public outcry, we have decided not to shut down 4chan."
>>7025Oh and dont forget you need a count down timer on the site
>>7025>we have decided not to shut down 4chan.And then shut it down.
4chan is bought out by a Chinese investment firm, and is changed to "better reflect Chinese values." Announce it with a fake press release with a photoshopped image of Hiroyuki and some random Chinese executive shaking hands.- Banners and some ads are changed to images of old Mao-era propaganda.- Word filters for specific phrases (i.e., "china" becomes "People's Republic of China", "taiwan" becomes "Chinese Taipei", "winnie the pooh" is just blanked out, etc.). As a follow up to that, pick out more phrases from that anti-chinese copypasta that people keep spamming and block any instance of those phrases as spam. So any post that says "human rights" or "dalai lama" gets automatically blocked.- change the "Our system thinks your post is spam" message to instead say "According to local laws, regulations, and policies, your post was blocked. The relevant authorities have been notified."- a sticky thread on some boards encouraging users to post and discuss Chinese content (film, books, history, etc.) and prohibit them from posting "harmful content that violates the laws and values of China." Enforce this harshly.- Implement the Social Credit System. Subject to moderator discretion, pro-China posts get a message saying (USER WAS AWARDED 5 SOCIAL CREDITS FOR THIS POST), while anti-China or pro-Western posts have the opposite. Go crazy with the supposed "benefits" that people can get for having high social credit. It would probably cause a giant shitstorm, but isn't that what April Fools is all about? Also, I swear to god I had this idea before the /v/GAs.
4chan becomes Boomerchan. No discussion is allowed for any content released after 2000. As we all know, only 30-year-old boomers can remember the nineties.
Put the oekaki tools on every board and disable normal image posting, frame it as a push for more OC.
>>7030This is a really, really cool idea. I would wholeheartedly support this!!
>>7029based
>>7029>>7032Before you're allowed to make a post, you must confirm that you are indeed that 30-year-old Boomer who still posts on 4chan.
>>7044If you select the zoomer option then your name automatically becomes Dumb Zoomer.Whenever possible, Dumb Zoomers are given public bans.
>>7030this!
>>7044i haven't laughed at a post this much in a long timegood god 10/10
>>7044Okay, this is epic
Announce that 4chan is becoming an Epic Games Exclusive
>>7044This so much.
>>5699test
>>7030Do this on October 6th, /i/'s birthday.
Replace the captcha with trivia questions about the board's subject matter. Any time someone gets a question wrong, they get shamed with an announcement at the bottom of their post telling everyone what they thought the answer was and an /r9k/-style ban that starts out as a few seconds and escalates the more times they get questions wrong. >implying /a/ knows shit about anime
Not sure about the other boards, but turning /v/ into /incel/ internet celebrities was suggested a couple weeks ago for next year and I think that's funny. Also make /o/ into /bnch/ for benchracing.
Random chance for Anons to have a VERIFIED blue checkmark on their posts. Resets in different threads.
4chan is "bought out" by a Chinese company. Word filters galore and a publicly visible social credit score for every poster, generated on keywords favorable to the Chinese regime. Boards can have their own specific rulesets in relation to the theme like "you can't post on /v/ after 10 PM your time" or "/biz/ can only talk about the Chinese economy and companies". Biggest problem is that this is a pretty huge ask implementation wise.
>>5699A few ideas:A) Make a /onions/ board;B) Rename /pol/ as /onions/, allow jannies to move threads to /onions/ and make it so that the topic is discussing anything onions related (including products, memes and selfies); reddit and twitter captions (etc.) also get moved there.C) Rename every board into being something that takes the piss off of the posters: /pol/ -> /onions/; /v/ -> /mobile games/ or /twitter captions/; /s/ -> /coom/; /b/ ->/sfwb/; /lit/ -> /blog/ etc. Bonus points if mods and janies try to enforce the new board topics (ex: /v/ is now /twitter captions/ so OPs must start with a twitter caption about vydia; /lit/ is /blogs/ so if you're not making a blog post about literature you're off-topic).I'm sure that other people can come up with better gags for each board, just wanted to get the idea written down for 2020.
>>7044Needs a trick answer that gets an error message, like "Yup, SAO, that was a good anime" or "If you didn't watch Jurassic World, you had a bad childhood."
>>7044Might be more work than it's worth, but you could also have board jannies/mods chime in and come up with a list of board-specific boomer options reflecting different boards' applications of boomer fixations. Could be fun.
Zombie outbreak-style April Fools event inspired by the Coronavirus outbreak and the previous Easter Team War event that we did:Here's it how it goes:>Three days before April 1st:/x/ is quarantined without any announcement. If you visit the board you get a simple "this board is under quarantine" message and the background is empty. a hidden youtube video is embedded on the board playing a muffled siren/alarm sound(as if you're outside the 'wall' surrounding /x/). >Two days before April 1st:The siren on /x/ is replaced by muffled gunfire and monster sounds youtube embeds.>One day before April 1st:An announcement is placed the top of 4chan declaring an emergency and warning all users to remain inside their boards and not to venture out for any reason, along with a red siren gif or something. If users visit /x/, all sounds have stopped and at the bottom of the page a "hole" has been torn through the background as if a monster has broken free. Possibly embed a eerie, ambient background track playing.>April 1st:A small percentage of users are designated "Infected" based on their IP addresses. Every 10 or 30 minutes or whatever, the range of infected IP's grows. So at the start of April Fools Day, only like <5% are infected, halfway through the day roughly 50% are infected, and by the end of the day the website should be around 95+% infected. This can use the same system as the "teams" from the Easter event two years ago.Optional: You could also randomly split up roles within the humans and infected teams. For example, among infected the majority are titled "Infected", a small percentage are "Alpha Infected", and a tiny percentage "Behemoth Infected." Among humans: majority are "Civilian", small percentage are "Soldier", and a tiny percentage are "Scientist."Anyway, you can make this more directly related to the coronavirus by changing the team names if that's desired.rate
>>7311Anything else, like special visual distinctions on infected posts, or regular infected not allowed to post in human threads until an alpha or behemoth has posted in them, would probably make coding the event too complicated but ideas similar to that would be cool.
Too late now, but rename 4chan to Coronachan and put every board in lockdown. The first post you make on April 1st will automatically ban you from all boards EXCEPT the board you made your post on.And if your post includes any variation of the words "cough" or "koff" or "coof" then your post is automatically quarantined and can't receive any (You)s.
Gonna apologize in advance since after hearing my amazing idea for this year nobody is even gonna feel like wasting their puny brain power coming up with another joke. Here's my idea: keep a count of however many (You)s everyone is getting and then let them spend their (You)s on a gacha. The prizes of this gacha will be different hats (like the holiday ones) or icons that they can add to posts next to the username. For example, you could have wojak, longcat, yotsuba, etc. icons that users can add to other posts. Now the kicker is that after the event ends you don't get rid of this system, but you instead make it $1 to roll and you get five icons you can use on any misc board like /b/, /bant/, /qa/, etc. Boom I've single handedly solved all of this site's financial woes. Please feel free to tell my why you think this is a good idea, or even if you think it's a bad idea so I can explain why you're wrong.
>>7699also please ignore the wojaker thing, that was just a dumb script someone made I don't actually use it lol
We only have two months to give April Fools ideas! PANIC!Obviously it can be more Corona stuff because vaccination would be incredibly boring and essentially just last year's but in reverse; since nothing else parody worthy happened (2020 itself was the parody) it'd be better to just do something dumb and fun.>>7699I like this idea but make them consumable so that users try to get as many >(You)'s as possible or otherwise they won't be able to funpost.
Replace /vt/ with a VT100
among us but its 4chan
Let us add formatting to our posts!
4chan but its just one board or thread
Lets go oldschool.Force the page theme to look like Windows 2.1 or something
My idea is that we'll give users a random team and make them fight over a new board (or just /b/ since nothing of value would be lost in the process). Users will be able to make threads and then the team that gets the most replies in that thread wins the thread until a team wins most threads in a board; which makes them the victor of the board war. The fun part is that every time someone replies to someone else from a different team their post gets deleted, and if it isn't too much work maybe people could also protect posts by replying to posts from their team until enemy teams overwhelm them with more >(You)'s.That or perhaps we could have different sorts of games/contests throughout the day which are team based.
>>7734Make it so each board is a possible imposter rather than individual posters. Let the users debate and gain consensus or not (eg."/x/ is sus" or "I trust /a/", etc.).

what if we added a chat window, like on those shitty anime streaming sites and the like? could either be global or board specificit wouldn't have images, so we wouldn't have to worry *too* much about moderating it, though i'm sure we'd need to keep an eye on it. but it could default to names like xXxD4rkS14y3rxXx and just generally be sillythe more obnoxious and unusable the UI, the better
>>7781Oh god... Would the names be continuous the whole day or per message?
>>7782imo the names should be customizable, but just *default* to silly things like thatso you could keep the same name, or keep changing it up, but there would be no tripcodes or anything like that, so anybody could use any name

>>7790this but my little pony
>>7794that's half the fun ;^)
>>7788I know you're joking, but a take that satirizes the addition of all these video game boards this year could be something topicalAt the start, you'd make an announcement that since all the new video game boards were so profitable and marketable, 4chan is exclusively a video game site nowEvery board gets renamed to put Video games in front of it, /k/ becomes Video Games - Weapons, /pol/ becomes Video Games - Politics, and of course /v/ becomes Video Games - Video Games (or "everything except video games" for a quick throwaway joke), you get the ideaThat's the first part, after that you obviously want to maximize the video game board profits even more, so you keep adding new video game boards>"New Board added: /v[something]/ - Video games - [Something]"In big red letters every hourAlthough admittedly, just adding some boards is not as cool as all the crazy stuff from previous years, so I dunno
Stock market idea, but with trading NFTs of posts and tripcodes.
>>7818I suggested a different stock market idea in Discord a few months ago:Basically an interactable stock market. Each IP address is given a starting amount of virtual money. At the top of each page will be a stock ticker displaying a bunch of random made-up meme stocks (ie, PEPE or WOJAK, SNEED, ASUKA, REI, KOJIMA, etc. I'd try and get memes/references from all around the site.) The value of each of these stocks will randomly go up and down throughout the day, as well as giving mods the ability to manually change the price of stocks, for instance they could simulate a stock crashing to zero or a short-squeeze where a stock goes up like 20x in the span of an hour.)Users will be able to invest their money into the different stocks and either gain more money or lose it. Each users net worth will be displayed next to the posts they make on the site.It would basically turn a lot of the site into /biz/ for a day. Users would spend the day shitposting about getting everyone to invest in certain stocks or sell others, some users would make millions while others would go bankrupt. Mods could join in by posting publicly telling users to invsest/sell certain stocks.Don't know how feasible this is but I think it would be fun, and would relate to current events with how popular stocks are nowadays.
Saw this in a thread right now:>Create a new board for every two-letter combination that isn't already being used. No topics for any of them, although some will obviously develop one over time (such as /fb/ and /yt/). At the end of the day, the best board (least shitposting, most polite, most effort, most interesting) gets to stay permanently.
>>7822>Create a new board for every two-letter combination that isn't already being usedthere's 325 two letter combinations in the english alphabet. it's a cute idea but there's no way it would work.

April Fools idea:On every board, have a random list of "corrections" that display at the top of the board. For example, on /a/ we'd have "Madoka reported Kyubey to intergalactic authorities, where he was arrested for violating child labor laws and sentenced to 20 years in jail. Madoka became a successful executive and has three children, Homura now works as a hotel cleaning lady in Shanghai." You don't just do it for shows, but for anything. Like /an/ would have various animal facts corrected, noting how delicious endangered turtle meat is or the healing properties of ground up dinosaur bones.

Fuck you, it's NFTwenty Twenty-Two.Every image you post is automatically hashed and forbidden across the site. Your image is added to your Collection Center (icon at the top of the page), and nobody can repost your image until you trade it to another user. (Even you cannot repost them, to encourage trading.)When you like someone else's image, click on the post's menu to [Offer Trade] with an image from your own Collection. Offers for trades get notifications at the Collection Center. There you can [Accept] a 1:1 trade, [Deny] it, or [Sweeten the Pot] by adding another image from your collection and demanding another image from the trader. Then the trader can [Match] your 2:2 and send it back for you to consider, or [Cancel] the trade, or [Sweeten the Pot] by adding another image and asking you to make it 3:3. A simple 1:1 trade can quickly balloon up to reach dozens:dozens.Once both parties have [Accept]ed the trade, then (You) can repost the images you have received... once. You can only post each image once. After that, you'll have to engage in another trade so the image can be reposted by someone else. Each post will display {A}, the number of times an image has been traded, {B}, the number of images that were involved in the image's previous trade, and {C}, the number of offers that the current owner has rejected so far. This somehow adds artificial value to the market.Everybody loves shilling, so let's fake some shills. Every few dozen posts in a thread, a fake-looking pseudo-post will appear with a sponsored message like>I'm confident in my 4chan investments, and their value is already ballooning!>This is an efficient usage of 4chan resources, and my portfolio is skyrocketing to the moon!>Ignore the naysayers, 4chan image trades are riding the wave of the future!Public (USER HAS BEEN NON-FUNGIBLY BANNED FOR THIS POST) for anyone caught knowingly/intentionally circumventing the hash to post an image they don't own. Vaxx April FoolsAll users starts unvaxxed, meaning they have no rights to socialize and post in a thread (or create a new one).To get vaxxed, you've gotta post in a special Vaxx thread on /qa/. Vaccinations will follow the vaxx thread's post order at the speed of 1 vaxx every minute.Should be doable by assigning users global IDs for the day and flagging them as "vaxxed" or "unvaxxed", no? If the "unvaxxed" effect sounds boring, we could go for something else.
>>8397As additional nonsense, users could gain more "rights" and weird "powers" as they get more vaxxes.>1 vaxxCan post inexisting threads>2 vaxxesCan create new threads and post pics>4 vaxxesThe "Anonymous" in your posts start glowing>6 vaxxesYou get Illuminati symbols popping out discreetely and randomly around your board>8 vaxxesYour 4chin theme gets swapped into a "reptilian" one>10 vaxxesCan see "thelepathic posts". On April 1st, 4chan is sold to Elon Musk for $40,000,000,000.To figure out how to make money from 4chan, Elon divides the users up into different "beta testing" groups. Every hour, different features (some old, some new) are given out and taken away, including>the Emoji picker>decorative hats on your images>changing the colors of your posts>giving nicknames/flair to another user's post>the "Super Dislike", deleting 1 (one) post from another userand of course, anybody with a 4chan Pass has all the features for the entire day. Also, each page has a monitor to show the share price of 4chan's stock. That number starts off quite high and is accompanied by smug /biz/ memes. Then it starts to dip and it's accompanied by a nervous /biz/ memes. We end with the price hitting zero alongside panicking /biz/ memes. On April 2nd, Elon sells 4chan back for $3.50.

Low-effort idea, if the mods just want something simple that's better than nothing>Just put auto-#fortune on every single post made for the day or however long you make it.and let users make of it what they will. Maybe a banner telling users there is/is not a meaning to the fortune results and that they are deadly serious/just for fun.
my idea:In anticipation of the 20th anniversary the old HTML and CSS is brought back, along with the sidebar and old front page. The old wordfilters are also brought back (candyass etc) and modern buzzwords are filtered to an appropriate 2000s term, like seethe/cope to U MAD or cringe to fail.[spoiler]Maybe /z/ could even make a return...[/spoiler]
Can we uwu-ify /pol/ again this year? That was a lot of fun.
>>5699randomly assign some users as "jannies" who can "sweep up" posts. All it does is make a broom appear next to a post
>>5699Make an exact imitation Janitor board called /jan/ with the header "Janitor & Moderator Discussion" and all the jannies will all fill it with total ridiculous nonsense with nothing related to actual Jani things, or just fake things like "hey guys i lost Moot's number can you help me out", then on April 1 after a "system update" the "/jan/" board with "accidentally" appear on the public boards list, making users thinking they somehow have access due to a glitch.See what calamity ensues? Curious to see how long it takes people to notice
>>9152edit: even better, all users on the imitation board have fake jani status or are able to delete images but not threads, or some kind of limited basic ability only on said fake jan board
>>9152I'm not sure why we'd hype up a fake /j/ when a shitty /j/ leak happened a few months ago.
>>9156I guess his idea is that since that leak was completely boring and uninteresting, we make a funny one instead? Not that I'm very sold on his idea, bringing back >>>/z/ would be better.

Community notes, like they have on twitter, except for posts. Not sure how they'd get added. But it'd be funny to have a post and a community note with "Sources from Reuters and AP indicate that I had sex with OP's mom last night."
>>9390repurpose report system, with a series of prewritten community notes, and the N posts in a thread with the strongest weight to one Commnity Note get the note made visible.
>>9390Man, this could be really fucking great
"To improve 4chan's accessibility to our disabled and visually impaired users, we invite users to add community-sourced image descriptions to any images they post or see">Would probably be a nightmare to actually implement, and would add an extra field of moderation for jannies to examine, but the idea of handing anon the Audio Descriptive Subtitles button for other users' posts is funny, in a "let's see how much they fuck things up" way.
each board gets one thread for the day. everything you want to talk about has to go in that one thread. it would make the site chaotic and unusable and I want to see what would happen

Temporary april fool's board called /bb/ "The Backboards", which are accessed only by clicking links to posts that do not yet exist.Simultaneously wordfilter "Backboards", /bb/, /b2/ and related phrases to [muffled sounds of fear], and wordfilter any attempt to link directly to the backboards by typing "boards.4chan.org/bb/" to point to a random other regular board on the site.Any user who has cookies indicating they've posted on the /bb/ is "trapped" and their posts outside the /bb/ will be cancelled with "error: you cannot escape the backboards"If you want to play into the "analog horror genre" stuff, have a few modposts indicate that "mods are also becoming trapped here" until eventually an admin post apologises for the inconvenience in japanese, indicates that the feature will be switched from "spooky" to "funny", and the /bb/ limitations are lifted.

Well, I hope the mods (or dev, or whoever has to make this shit work) has fun fooling us this year.
I liked the suggestion of novelty word filters for each board./pol/ would get blacks/niggers/mutts filtered to White Americans./k/ could have something simple such as swapping 9mm and .45, and swapping AR and AK.Porn boards could have words like blacked and bleached swapped (in fact, make those global). Other globals could be wordswapping trannies/troons/agp into bodybuilders.
I'm gonna say it. The "X for each board" ideas are probably not feasible. There's like 80 boards. Coming up with a unique, interesting idea for each board is just not going to work, especially on the less-trafficked boards that get only a few posts a day. It needs to be site-wide and applicable to all boards.
>>9784Fuck, you're probably right.
>>9784why would you have to do anything for every board?
a virtual pet would be cool
>>9490hoping for this

If you really can't get anything done in time, just apply a note saying "the april fools joke is ACTIVE in this thread" to 10% of threads.the joke is that there is no joke. It's lame but it's something.
reposting an idea i saw last year but forgot to put ITTI had this idea for a couple years now where the site would be fashioned after Gaia Onlineeveryone would have a "404 Girl" avatar that would be attached to their postsyou'd be able to buy cosmetics(shirts, pants, hats, mouths, eyes, skin colors, etc.) with some bullshit currency that'd you earn through a gacha game or somethingmaybe there could be other functionality, like trading(I dunno, I've never used Gaia)Not sure if it'd be possible, and even if it was it'd take a lot of work and time that isn't really worth for a single day joke, but I think it'd be fun
>>9800i am calling my handler at the office to have you sent to federal prison
Had the idea a while back to have the site only navigatable using keyboard shortcuts, encouraging both lulz and educating users who don't normally utilize those functions.Bitch of it is, mobile users exist.
>>9800god this would make users so fucking mad, in the sort of fun way that april fools is aboutI was thinking we could replace the user ID system with a visual one, have a bunch of features that get randomised by ID, and then see how users naturally become tribal about certain things>Don't trust him, he's got the dangly ears, you know what that means>roller skates? fuck off, this is a normal legs thread>ITT only post if you think your chantar is rare (spoiler: they're all identically common)gamifying it like you suggest would be more work but would be fucking hilarious
>>9800this is way too good

To remind the userbase that this is an "Anime Website", all boards will be revamped to cover both their original topic AND anime.Oops! All Anime
Show users a wallet of "Dark Money" tied to their IP, with a disclaimer that Dark Money is not real money. When a user goes to make a post, there is a ~15% chance they will be offered a small sum (cents) of Dark Money credited to their IP for making any post, and a ~15% chance they will be offered a larger sum (dozens of cents) for making a post that mentions specific terms without mentioning other specific terms>you will be credited 0.48 Dark Money for mentioning "soft tacos" in this post>you will be credited 0.55 Dark Money for mentioning "Video Games" in this post without mentioning "player choice" >you have been chosen to receive 0.04 Dark Money for making an authentic post on this board at this time
>>9880kept misread this as "dark monkey"
>>9880This is a neat idea but I think you would have to have stuff that users could spend the dark money on to give incentive.

April Fools: Sage grows in every field!>We understand "sage" has been a popular herb in the options field. We have added new herbs, including but not limited to yew, lavender, rose, and hemlock. Try them and see what happens!herbs in the herb field have an effect on post CSS, similar to how users could display their stocks in 2024. Some herbs have specific effects, others can just be aliased to some other herbal effect so there are more terms for the same effect. There being lots of options means users could have fun trying to find them and share them, or cause emergent behaviour such as choosing to form tribal groups like roseposters vs lavenderposters. Users having fun arguing over which stock was better was a fun aspect of last year's april fool.herbs could change the post color>rose for rose pink>yew for yellowish-green>weed for dank green>lavender for lavender purple>saffron for orange/yellowherbs could add fun effects to posts>rose makes the font fancy>weed appends ", dude." to the end of sentences at random>hemlock "kills" the user by truncating the post, adding "-uurrgh!" and (user died horribly after this post)>mandrake bolds or increases font size because mandrake screams>catnip adds cat-like affectations to the post (/lgbt/ will love this) such as nyas and :3s>various fragrant herbs have a chance of adding (user smelled nice for this post)>eucalyptus adds a koala hanging off the right side of your post>tea reads the leaves and checks your #fortune (on any board)I'm happy to overthink this and come up with moar if you like the idea.
