Illuminati is just a term for all the different groups that seek illumination in some way. So underneath that heading falls many occult groups and other groups organized by those occult groups including all gnostics and so on.
The highest reaches of the Illuminati are an exclusively magical order that communicates and organizes itselves through the astral and telepathy rather than mundane means.
