Cyberpunk is cool, but giving yourself up to technology is not. I love having many computers around and tinkering with them, and using text-based user interfaces and similar retro-hacker stuff, but I would not give myself up to this because it is still physical energy.
Cyberpunk and enlightenment conflict. Cyberpunk is about corrupt fascism, anarchy, technology; enlightenment is about individuality, peace and nature. The two cannot be together, sadly.
Technology is trying to be an alternative to enlightenment; instead of people becoming conscious and changing the physical as they please, or even leaving the physical and living in the astral as a species, they are trying to fill their bodies with computer parts. This would be alright and I love the idea, but people are doing it for pleasure and attention. Instead of putting useful augmentations into their body, they want cat ears and similar things. And I'm all for people doing that, like I'm saying I absolutely love the idea, but the vast majority of people would act no different than they do now - trying to fill emotional holes by buying things and changing their life.
Cyberpunk is also not possible right now. It's about fighting the man and fascism vs anarchy. The problem is that people do not act as you wish they would. If you browse /pol/ or are generally disconnected from society (you are here, after all) you can see how people do not retaliate and just submit to their leaders. Your underground hacking group trying to infiltrate monsanto would be backdoored by the NSA through your computers and even your bodies. You would be tracked and put in jail, unable to help the people who do not fight against it.
Only bumping because I put time into writing this rant. I'd like to hear other peoples opinions on technology and mind together.
