Yeah, I think so, too. It marked a qualitative change in my spiritual path.

Yes, absolutely. First of, you need to determine whether these thoughts are actually invading (entities of all sorts actively feeding of you or trying to get your attention for whatever reason) or it's just you "tuning in" to random stuff because you lack mental discipline.
The later is fixed by doing no-mind meditation until you can stay with a blank mind (no words, just feeling and notions) for extended periods of time.
The former requires you to meditate, focus on the thoughts on sensations you feel are not yours and see if anything comes up. This is what it might look like:
>be working
>start thinking of ex
>have incredible urge to look up pictures of her and masturbate like I used to
>boner
>stop working
>sit in meditative position
>completely stop internal chatter
>enter semi-astral travel mode
>focus on the urge to fap to ex
>image of lizard with lion head scurrying about appears out of nowhere
>grab it astrally
>it tries to get away
>grab it with astral hands and gouge it to pieces
>open my eyes
>horny sensation fading away
>get meditative again and look for urge to fap to ex
>incredible sense of bliss and well-being inundates me instead

It could also be that these thoughts are indeed coming from yourself, and while you meditate on them as per above, you get an insight or a breakthrough into some kind of trauma. It's all about exploration. In any case, don't push them away. That won't help.
