After joining a year long correspondence course that has a forum to discuss the work I've seen the benefits of group work and discussing experiences. I think we could benefit a lot from going through a book or course as a group.
I run one of the mega's and have the leaked TO.bz torrent material as well as my own TO.bz material backed up on an external hard drive so there is a lot we could choose from.
For example we could use prometheus rising, reading a chapter every fortnight, discussing the book and discussing our results from the exercises. Not only would this broaden our knowledge from gaining multiple perspectives and shared stories but also increase dedication to actually carrying out the practises and build a better sense of community strengthening our egregore.
I also have a book and set of mp3s that go along with it by Christopher Penczak that we could use. I listened to the first of the mp3s last night and it worked pretty well, it started off with candle meditation, switched to simple visualisation, then more complex visualisation and then creation of a physical trigger to enter a light meditative state at will which I've used since then and works really well.
If anyone is interested in this bump the thread, suggestions on what to work through are welcome, look through the html files on the mega here
https://mega.co.nz/#F!PhhQjSSD!-66y91AMhWQdnoPCx4m5Sg to see if there's any books or mp3s thats would be worth experimenting with, preferably something you have read and know to be worthwhile.
Also feel free to discuss what kind of occult practise you would like to do group work with, general magic, AP, lucid dreaming, whatever.
No.26959
>>26956Sounds pretty good. +1.
Personally I'd like to do some general stuff or lucid dreaming, but pretty flexible.
No.26962
>>26959I'm leaning towards Penczak's work at the moment as it is set out in a course-like fashion with mp3s to work through. He is classified as wiccan in the archives but the skills taught apply across the board.
The first book and set of mp3s covers [cd1] relaxation, meditation, affirmations, triggers using hand gestures, mental projection, correspondences, vibrational statements, polarity of the earth and sky, [cd2] heartbeat control, sun and moon, tree meditation, protection shields, [cd3] aura clearing, chakra opening and balancing, psychic travel [cd4] visiting the inner temple, healing, past-life exploration.
There are four further cd sets as well but I don't have the accompanying books as pdfs.
I have a few courses on lucid dreaming, haven't tried any myself yet but maybe we could do both in separate threads if people are up for it.
Here is track one from cd 1 of Penczak's stuff for you to see if you get on with it: You'll need a candle and a darkish room. Incense is optional but recommended.

Prometheus Rising is indeed a good book ,and I've found the eight-circuit model really fascinating though I admit I didn't do any of the exercises. Here is something I made concerning that model.
If we'll have some group discussion thing, I wish we could have the chat on some internet page and not on Skype or other messengers. Of course, whatever works the best for the majority should be the medium for this sort of discussion.
No.26967
>>26964Ideally the discussion would be here on a thread on /fringe/, we could take up trips just for the group work thread if need be to help us keep our thoughts and experiences linked.
I've also enjoyed prometheus rising and the 8 circuit model is great for providing insight but was too lazy to do most of the exercises.
No.26968
>>26964Also, nice picture, I heard the 8 circuit model was created based on the chakra system although I'm not 100% on how accurate that is as I've not read Leary's books on it. Leary did write quite a few occult texts, relating tarot to the 8 circuit model amongst other things but in most of his books he's much harder to read than RAW.

It would make sense to go over the core /fringe/ texts as there will be a mix of neophytes and adepts.
I've been into the occult for a good few years and still haven't got round to reading the kyballion.
Theory based books would be good for debate, exercise based stuff would be good for experience reports, encouraging people to do more practical work and exchanging tips on method.

I like this idea very much so, but think we should make it absolutely clear which book, method, experiment or the like is going to be discussed. We get nowhere if we just keep discussing what we are going to do, hell even make a poll about it if necessary. Maybe even plan it ahead a while so we can keep the discussion flowing naturally.
My only suggestion would be to start at something basic and work up from there, to get everyone that joins in on the same level, so to speak.
Just some thoughts I'm throwing out, will be following this thread.
No.27076
Both these books are presented like courses, have exercises at the end, are new to most here (not in sticky, which is good since people wouldn't want to go slowly through books they've already read), and are very good.
The Master-Key System is a 24 week course, with exercises at the end of each chapter. It is a practical wrapper to The Kybalion (/fringe/'s most recommended book), is very acclaimed, and has only been mentioned here once (by me).
Introduction to Magic by Julius Evola is an advanced, Magic book, which is worthy of group discussion and I doubt a Magic book exists online with better quality writing. It is meant to be approached chapter by chapter as a course. Would like to discuss the 'Knowledge of the Waters' part with others.
No.27077
>>27062Don't worry we don't have to rush into doing anything, right now we need to accumulate people commited to taking part, which means we have time to discuss what materials to choose while enough of the right people find the thread.
Personally I'd like to do the Penczak stuff, I've recently set up an altar (buddhist not wiccan, although I have got myself a fancy wooden wand) and feel drawn to witchy type stuff with candles, affirmations while in trance and visualisation etc. My experience with the first mp3 was very good. From the little I've read of him he seems like an agreeable guy with his head and heart in the right place.
I'd still like to hear criticisms of him from mr degenerate flag, or anyone else though. Tearing down idols and teachers is an important part of keeping autonomy in your practise. I hope its for a more substantial reason than him having an odd sounding last name.
I'm a little tired of RAW to be honest, I enjoy his fiction and stuff like the illuminatus papers but I overdosed myself on him with youtube videos a few years back and got tired of the kind of style he has in prometheus rising. I'd like to do a quantum psychology group in real life though, that book has real life group exercises rather than individual ones.
I'm not too drawn to lucid dreaming, although it would be useful realistically in my development as I have little time for practise in the waking hours. I get up in a rush due to mundane obligations so the basic things like keeping a dream diary is an issue.
There is no reason why we can't run multiple groups with different material if enough people are interested and commited to each course. Lucid dreaming courses could easily run side by side with a waking hours course.
Most of all we need to get a headcount, along with discussion and votes on what material to follow.

>>27078Introduction to Magic is by no means an easy book. I remember reading it through during last spring slowly and being, quite frankly, too stupid to understand it as a theoretically insufficient neophyte. There were, of course, "easier" parts, but the meat of it was still too unattainable for me
No doubt I would benefit greatly from rereading and I would enjoy it as well, I just think that it's an honest preface - you should not read this book too early in your studies as to not waste your time and miss the good bits.

>>26956I suggested this book to derpmongler, he seemed to like the idea of improved lucid dreaming practice.
The author of the book has a Phd in psychology and has studied Lucid Dreaming both on himself and volunteers over a decade and has refined techniques to enter into Lucidity and remain so. As well as techniques to shift the dream scape, learn in the dream scape, possess dream entities etc.
While not overtly mystical or metaphysical he refers to a lot of Eastern Thought such as Tibetan Dream Yoga and the esoteric writings of Ouspensky, amongst others.
Pdf seems to be a bit of a mess sadly. The physical book is great.

A sabbatic meeting place would be a good first step. The only problem is, a group must really flow together at all levels, energetically and mentally. A hodge-podge of /fringe/ wizurds isn't naturally going to click. Traditions have group initiations to bond the group, which is a huge difference between our work, and people flinging energy at each other over an irc.
No.27399
>>27397I agree the board could be better but I think you're missing the point of the thread. We're not working in a group as in say a coven or the golden dawn or OTO with group rituals and initiations, we'd be working separately on the same material and then comparing notes and experiences. I guess there would be a sense of community involved just not to the degree of an actual tradition.
>A sabbatic meeting place would be a good first step. wuts a sabbatic?
irc has been interesting and benefitial, mostly, if only just to chat about our practises and experiences, we're not really doing any actual work there.

TL;DR fringe circlejerks are a waste of time
>>27400Nothing I can do, its all in the individual mental attitudes. When people look within, truthfully and want to better themselves with all of their thelema, it will happen. People often too easily are swept away by the currents of fancy and pride.
As for sites, usually what you can find by your own intuition will work for you. This requires trust of the self, and is why many people actually fall short. They trust authors, dead or otherwise to show them a path, when such paths are limited by the human condition.

I've heard good things about Rufus Opus' new book Seven Spheres.
It's quite expensive ($50 for limited hardback copy) but would fit this thread as it is a seven month (+) long self initiation using planetary ritual.
http://www.miskatonicbooks.com/SEVEN-SPHERES-by-Rufus-Opus-Limited-Edition-Hardcover.html
>Seven Spheres is more than a simple book of traditional Hermetic Magic. It is designed to be a series of rituals that function on many levels to take an average ordinary magician and turn them into a self-actualized powerhouse of proactive reality engineering. It’s entirely about attaining initiation and empowerment in the highest levels of un-manifest reality. These experiences and rites result in the release of a floodgate of power that pour down through the layers of progressive manifestation, building up awareness, understanding, and ultimately raw potential as you move from sphere to sphere through the rites, ultimately culminating in the anointing of the magician as Priest-King directing the forces that climax in your personal daily experience of the Joy of your life. This book isn’t about physical or spiritual mastery, it is entirely about understanding that you, personally, are beloved, honored, blessed, and highly favored of every intelligence, spirit, angel, and god of every sphere. This is about understanding who you are and what you can accomplish as a human being manifest upon the surface of the Earth. Spiritual enlightenment and material mastery will be yours, if you do the work described. No.27549
