Free time could almost be thought of as the most baneful curse to ever grace our lives. Exportation, automation and invalidation of labor and other fields of work have all left a space in humanity for the class of people no one likes to talk about called NEETs. Having too much time on your hands might sound fun at first but as you learn it becomes exceedingly difficult to spend it without the income of a working man. This free time starts to putrefy into unproductively and self destruction.
*NEET - Not in Education, Employment, or Training.
As magicians we practice mindfulness meditation every day. But have you ever understood why? or do you just put it into your routine because it might of been recommended or told as one of the greatest practices a magician can do for them self. But I'm not here to talk about all the benefits of mindfulness meditation. But I do wish to talk about the effect it can have on your life when it comes to laziness and procrastination, a trait many of us seem to have.
Becoming more conscious is an absolutely essential part of becoming a magician and living a productive life. With practicing mindfulness meditation you will find yourself in thoughts or performing a kind of mental "reset". This can be in any activity or time of your daily life. All external stimulus will trigger an "egotistical" mental reaction if the magician is not in an aware conscious state of mind. He might get trapped in a thought loop over some mundane political or national issue only to be effected by the mental "reset" and then elevate to a higher state of consciousness, thus brushing the issue of and retracting his emotions. Refreshing awareness and bringing a higher view to whichever activity had been automatically performed is a great benefit in controlling your life.
To give some more meat to the above explanation let us recall events where we have pulled ourselves out of "thought loops" or generally out of other low states of consciousness. You might begin to remember some stupid or embarrassing moments. This is the kind of time where you use sugar instead of salt, or put your hand on a stove. Since we slip out of consciousness at any moment this can also life choices and decisions, spiraling your life further into a hellhole.
Thus being in a low consciousness state is very detrimental to one's life if they are NEET as we might imagine. Your life will eventually end up becoming an endless cycle of wasting time through various means like zombie image board browsing(Technically it comes under entertainment. But since we are on one I thought to give it its own category), entertainment, fidgeting, masturbation, excessive sleeping, excessive eating, etc. Go take a look at the /jp/, /a/ or /r9k/ NEETs if you wish to get a better idea of exceptional time wasting.
It's up to you to find what to do with your time. Some of us can only read so much or practice so much in a day, have very little money for hobbies and productive ideas. For the higher ranked wizards among us can spend more time on advanced ritual work or other projects for their favored path working system. But for the neophytes or more "casual" and slow progressing wizards it can be difficult to fill your day with productivity.
I'm not here to tell you what to do. Instead I'm here to tell you to Do. Figure out what you can do with your day and vigilantly perform it. Being conscious requires emotionally or intellectually stimulating activities if you are to make any progress at keeping a meditative lifestyle. So the bottom line is that you practicing mindfulness meditation will eventually help you to catch yourself in thought. Catching yourself in a thought/lower consciousness level will allow you to take back control of your vehicle and begin to consciously drive life in the direction you want it to head. If you don't want to control your body, another will gladly do it for you. So take up mindfulness meditation today!

I suffer from chronic time wasting. It's very hard for me to focus on my studies when there are so many distractions.

Thank you for this post, OP. Idk what it is, I just can't get into the habit of having a job. Like any fucking job. Money is cool and all and pretty much a necessity in today's world unless you want to live on the streets and/or leech off of other people, which in my opinion NO magician should be doing(leeching).
I had my first job in November and last until January when I got fired for having shitty attendance. It was retail, I didn't hate it. It was actually pretty cool. Got to work with really chill people and all that interacting with people daily. There's just something in the back of my head that makes me feel like having a job is a waste of time. Like I could be doing so much more that helps humanity than working for someone else. Idk what it is really but it's affecting other people like my family and most importantly, myself.
Do I just need to suck it up, stop bitching and work? This is affecting me big time negatively and I don't want to live like this for the rest of my life.

>>30586Start of with mindfulness meditation. 10 minutes a day. Don't try to force yourself to start of with 15-20 or 30 like some guides might say. You need to slowly build up. Eventually you will have a thought "What am I doing right now? There is no need for this". You can also work certain firewalls into your brain like every time you want to do something ask yourself "How will this benefit me?".
If you need to ingrain new habits try a combination of autosuggestion as if you already had them. And every night before going to bed visualize yourself doing the activity of the habit several times(Your brain will think it has done the activity for the day).
>>30587You certainly don't need to take up payed work again. The purpose of my words were to help those in your situation who might be falling into a downward spiral of procrastination.
I recommend trying to find a way in which you might be able to work from home somehow. Possibly offering teaching to others, selling various items you craft or trade, various internet methods, etc. Since we all need money to survive just make sure you are earning enough to live how you need to.
Your skills are of much more value honed through your studies and practices than could ever be through a corporate job.

>>30587A man says "These things are mine and they exist for my purposes and profit only." This is a delusion.
He says "Labor for me and you can share in MY things." This is a furthering of delusion and a baited hook. A man truly believing those things to be his alone and for his profiting only will not give them up unless he believes he has taken more than he has given.
Jobs are fruitless endeavors. They are spiritual sinkholes. It is better to die than to survive on wrong livelihood. This I tell you truthfully.

>>30589To say more. Be not a seller of things or a laborer. A seller is one who gives bad gifts for the fruits of ones labor or who first WITHHOLDS that which he knows a person could have better use of. I tell you truthfully the best thing to do with money is to give it to someone who will not give it back.

>>30588>I recommend trying to find a way in which you might be able to work from home somehow. Thanks for the wise words. I've actually been thinking of doing something in coding like html/css/web development. There are a lot of opportunities on craigslist for this kind of work. I'm sure something will come along that I enjoy doing and get payed well for it. Thanks again, OP!
>>30589>Jobs are fruitless endeavors. They are spiritual sinkholes. Yeah, I agree with this a lot. I see so many people working dead end jobs and they're so unhappy. I don't want to be like them but everyone around me is pushing me to get a job, to "do something with my life" like slave away 6-8 hours a day working at the mall or something. They don't see what I am doing though. Improving my life spiritually. It's all a joke to them, but once I get a job it's like their whole perspective on me changes.

>>30591I live with my mom, anon. Just today she pushed me to get a job because I was asking he for money for paint. I could tell that wrapped up in the command was the thought that "You (me) are not BETTER than me. I won't allow it." They want you in the same bondage they are in. Do not heed them. They are deceivers all. Their leavening is hypocrisy.
Do not go into spiritual poverty that you might attain material wealth. I tell you truthfully that when your soul is required of you, on the day you die, which you might not know which day that be, those things will not enrich you soul at all.

>>30591>>30593It's hard times we live in. Almost like we live in a war against spirituality since these materialists are too foolish to open their eyes. Monks used to be revered and honored before the government takeover of various lands.
Be vigilant for we have the power our higher self here to always help and guide us.

It is easy to become conscious and mindful of yourself in the moment, but it is another thing to remain in such a state. P. D. Ouspensky has said that it is possible for ordinary human to be aware of himself for two minutes.
Interestingly, the Law of Rhythm and Vibration manifest here; a higher state of consciousness is followed by a lower state, "there are lowlands where there are highlands". Persistence in maintaining higher and mindful states of mind creates a centre of gravity, or shifts one from lower to higher, as is stated in the Arcane Teachings,
>Aphorism xxvi. "Poise is Power. Poise results from Balance. Balance is secured by adjusting and maintaining the Centre between the Poles of the Pairs of Opposites. By Balanced Poise the Master neutralizes Polarity and Rhythm, by resolving them into Unity. In the Heart of the Storm is Peace. In the Centre of Life there is Poise and Power. Seek it ever, O Neophyte—for in it thou shalt find thy Self."
A lower state of consciousness has vibrations going in long wavelengths; this means all mental activities are slow and 'dumb'; a higher state of consciousness vibrates in shorter wavelengths, meaning all mental activities are more clear and fast. This might be thus because lower consciousness resembles material substance (aka. "thick density", see the second picture), which is rigid and stiff, while higher consciousness is more 'immaterial', flexible and clear, (aka. "thin density").
So, in a way, when you dwell in a lower state of consciousness, you become more material!

I have figured out a method to keep conscious. Slowly and deeply breath. Don't do this automatically or mechanically. Instead always be actively focusing on it. This will always keep you in the present moment and give you enough life force to sustain yourself with.

>>30901Physical reality is funny since what we call "the law of attraction" works to a much stranger way here than in the astral. In astral space, like attracts like and they keep together. In the physical space, same rules apply but one must actively work to find and stick to that like. An example is this image board where we all group together virtually. Anyway, it might ease your nerves to know after this life you will never need to be around or see those who you do not resonate with. Good luck fellow wizard. Keep the fight going strong.
