[Rules] [Moderator Log] [FAQ] [Fringe Guide] [Ranks] [/fringe/] [/asatru/] [/edgy/] [/4chon/] [/lel/] [/ask/] [Fringechan]
The rules are simple and only apply to the creation of threads on /fringe/:
1. No duplicate threads of topics that already exist unless the previous thread has hit the bump limit.
2. No making threads just to ask questions, actually present substantial information if you're going to make a thread.
3. No creating new threads purely to no-effort shitpost (you will be forgiven if it's a major GET).
4. Post threads that fall under the subject matter of /fringe/ (creepypasta FYI generally does not fall under /fringe/'s very broad subject matter, look at the sticky to see what subjects we discuss on /fringe/).

 No.53288

Why is it that wizards are commonly depicted wearing long robes and pointed hats?

(Rule 2 - Questions Thread)

 No.53296

The hat represents magickal gnosis. A wizard must be able to focus his will to a single tiny point, to be transmitted to the astral plane. The gnostic mind can also receive visions in the same way. The pointy hat is basically an antenna from the to the astral. Obviously you don't HAVE to wear a pointy hat to be a good wizard, but it's a convenient visual metaphor for what wizards are and what they do.

As for robes, it's because they convey a sense of sophistication and authority. Priests wear robes. Kings and queens wear robes during ceremonies. I realize this is somewhat circular logic, but it's the best answer I can come up with.

 No.53326

I'd say that they help in the magic process. Hat might be for what >>53296 said but I'd say robes help with magical power too. I'm not exactly sure of the magical properties of silk but wizards develop certain methods, rituals, techniques, as well as use certain items because they found them to help in the process.

also

>because they look badass

>tell me you dont want these sweet garbs

 No.53337

Probably because they traveled a lot and went into the woods for mushrooms and herbs. Outdoors attire has changed.

pointy hats were used as social punishment so early witches and sorcerers were drawn with stereotypical witch/wizard hats to discourage pagan tradition and romanticism subverted this for aesthetic value

wicca 101 know your roots neophyte

Fascinating, I just had to look that up. And here I thought a hat was just a hat.

I remember some of these hats from the middle ages artwork in the wiki link, but I never really questioned the history behind them because there are a lot of clothes out there. Just thought it was a regional thing.

Not all great wizards were depicted as wearing a hat. Snape never wore one and he was the baddest of them all…

-Hoodoo

-Chaos Magic

-Thelema

-goetic

-Baal-Shem tov

-shamanism

All more dependant on the individual doing the magic rather than on the system, yes.

So…? A system must automatically enlighten someone and improve his spiritual abilities.

There's literally nothing wrong with Wicca. It's a valid initiatory tradition along the same lines as Thelema, with various grades and degrees.

Solitary "kitchen witch" Wicca isn't real Wicca. That's just a scam to sell books.

 No.53965

So how DO you become a legit solitary witch or w/e?

Attention everyone!

Simple

You need to eat the beating hearts of men as you copulate with them, preferably by ripping them out with your bare hands. Once you have eaten 71 hearts you will become a succubus.

People have already chimed in on hats. Personally >>53296 describes my take on it.

Regarding robes. They help contain your energy so it's not flowing so freely everywhere so you can project it with greater intensity. From my research silk is a very unique substance, it acts as an blocker/shield for scalar waves (that's aetheric energy in nonscience terms). So if your robe was made of that it would further contain your aura, both for stealth and for concentration purposes.

 No.65281

The pointed hat comes from the dunce hat.

There is nothing better than silk, just don't wear it outdoors.

>>65295

Shit's hard to find though.

Where can I buy a pure silk hooded open robe like pic related?

 No.65449

>>65444

You can't.

You have to buy silk cloth by the yard and sew it yourself or get someone to sew it for you (and dye it yourself because high quality silk cloth is only sold white).

Sewing isn't very difficult to learn you just need to be able to cut patterns, hem edges, and connect pieces.

 No.65454

>>65449

I find that hard to believe.

You can buy tanks and missile silos on the internet, there has to be at least one place that sells custom order wizard robes.

 No.65456

>>65454

>You can buy tanks and missile silos on the internet, there has to be at least one place that sells custom order wizard robes.

That qualifies as getting someone to sew it for you. just find literally any tailor and give them a design and cloth and they'll make it for you. You could of course find them online but then you have to pay for shipping and the price will likely be less fair.

tl;dr unless you live in a place with no tailors within 100 miles there's no reason to use the internet instead of a local tailor

Here ya go. As said, it's not too hard to sew. Ixquick it if you really need to.

>>65454

As with any magical item, having some one else get their energies all over all it by crafting it… It would make it more trouble than it's worth really, unless it was made by another wizard that you trusted.

i love that pose, whats the name ot the pony base?

As for the robes, yes it is used as a barrier, both for keeping the wizards magic inside the body and dont contaminate the exterior and the other way around.

>>65295

> just don't wear it outdoors.

there is a reason for this or just to not be an edgelord/cringe fagget?

 No.65633

I just wear large hooded sweatshirts

Drug rugs are my favorite right now

Hoods are often pointed, it's essentially a robe/wiz hat you can wear in public.

Wizard hats look like golden hats. Ancient hats found in Europe worn during pagan ceremonies.

 No.73477

Does things like Robe of the Archmagi exist IRL? Does being semi nude and slutty, covering your private parts only with fine jewelry, precious metal chains and/or revealing spider-web thin silk like stereotypical female wizards/sorceresses in high fantasy improve your magic potential?

 No.73499

 No.73524

Cotton accumulates energy..

What you really want though is wool. Wool and embroidery in metal for patterns

 No.74071

Perhaps allows greater connectivity with the world around

Others nearby may allow themselves to increase their emotional output upon sight of your pale flab

> is okay if you pop a boner, just let the magic flow

 No.74111

What do you guys think of the talit? Can it be also used in some way? I have an acryllic one, though. (inb4 Jew)

 No.74120

>>74111

The Kabbalists considered the tallit as a special garment for the service of God, intended, in connection with the tefillin, to inspire awe and reverence for God at prayer.
