Bardon himself was an Adept. An Magus is not what you seem to think it is. Most men are absolutely incapable of becoming one unless they follow one of the paths to immortality and spend centuries refining themselves to reach that point.

Good points. I would like to add that those who truly become a "Magus" generally are not out advertising themselves as such. It is rare enough to come across an adept in the flesh and even rarer still a Magus. It is possible we have all come across such people in our lifetime and never known it. In certain areas you may be able to find a higher concentration of adepts, like a monastery on Athos, but they will not announce themselves and most likely will reject the title out of deep humility.
